You know this week

None of this is anyone doing their job badly. It’s too much reading for the hours in a week, done with tools that match words instead of what people actually did.

Knowing why someone was picked

Today: Identical CVs sent to the same job scored anywhere from 5.5 to 7.23 out of 10, with no explanation of how the score was made. Source: Privacy International, 'Humanless Resources: uncovering AI recruitment software', Jul 2026. With Harsift: Every call opens the CV on the exact line behind it, and code checks that line is word for word in the CV. Fixed rules, not a score, decide the pile.

  • I've been recruiting in the UAE for 20 years. I have never seen CVs this polished or this useless. AI has broken the CV as a screening tool. Not damaged. Broken.

What this calculator does

Put in your own numbers: how many CVs you get a month, how long someone spends on each, and what an hour of their time costs. It shows the hours and money that go into reading CVs today, and what’s left when Harsift reads them for you. The starting numbers are typical UAE figures, and each one shows where it comes from.

Questions

Does it replace my ATS?

No need. Harsift works inside the ATS you already have: it picks up new applicants from it and writes the pile, the evidence and a note per requirement back onto each candidate’s record. If you don’t use an ATS, it works from your inbox.

What works today?

Roles, screening, the three piles, the evidence view and the one question all work today, and we’ve tested them on 1,000 CVs. The Workable and Zoho Recruit connections are built and run in test mode, reading applicants and writing nothing back until they’re switched on. The MCP server already lets an agent read roles, piles and CV lines. Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp, Slack, Teams and Bullhorn are next, switched on one by one, along with agent tools that act as well as read. Joining the waitlist is how you get in as each one opens.

Does AI decide who gets rejected?

No. Harsift uses Jev to answer small factual questions about each CV, like “did they file the VAT return themselves?”. Fixed rules that you can read and change turn those answers into the pile. A language model only writes explanations when you ask for one, and it never changes a decision.

How did you test it?

We built 1,000 deliberately hard CVs for a Senior Accountant role in Dubai, wrote down the right answer for each one before any tool saw it, and ran three screeners on the same files. They’re test CVs in one clean layout, for one role in one market, and they test the hard part: telling apart who did the work from who only mentioned it. Messy real PDFs and scans go through a separate reading step first, and the next test is a live role.

Isn’t this just ChatGPT with a prompt?

No. One model reading the job ad and the CV and giving a verdict is exactly what the AI screener in our test does, and it got 43.6% right. Harsift breaks the role into small factual questions, uses Jev to answer each one against the CV, and fixed rules make the call. Same CVs, very different result. The difference is how the screening is built.

Where do our CVs go?

Harsift uses Jev by TypeSafe AI to answer the questions, and a language model only when you ask for an explanation. Before any real CV goes in, we agree with each team where CVs are stored, how long they’re kept and when they’re deleted.

What happens when a CV can’t be read?

It goes to a separate list to fix. It’s never marked Not a match, and Harsift never guesses what the CV might have said.

Does it look at age, nationality, photos or other personal details?

No. Harsift only asks about work: what they did, for how long, and what they’ve stated about notice, visa and salary. Anything you ask for that touches a protected detail gets flagged when the role is drafted.

What does it cost?

We’re setting prices with the first teams on the waitlist. Reading and sorting 1,000 CVs costs us about AED 0.59 today, so screening won’t be the expensive part.

Who built it?

Hamza, as a side project, using Jev by TypeSafe AI. It grew from a screening test into a full hiring pipeline once it held up against 1,000 difficult CVs.
